Improv 101 - An Improv Comedy Course by Seoul City Improv

Seoul City Improv's sold out improvisational comedy course is back.

Improv 101 is an introductory course covering improv fundamentals. Our course is designed to help you become a better collaborator and think more quickly on your feet, honing your confidence and creativity. People from all backgrounds are welcome, in the past we've had: actors, engineers, models, influencers and more–all coming together in a welcoming and engaging environment.

Seoul City Improv courses are all held in English. No experience or prerequisites are necessary!

*Improv courses by SCI are typically eight 3-hour sessions plus a graduation show, but the schedule has changed for this semester to cover the same course material in six 4-hour sessions with the graduation show. Please see the schedule below for details.

Cost: 220,000 won

Space is VERY limited, so please reach out to us ASAP at seoulimprov@gmail.com and send a 20,000 won deposit to reserve your spot in the class (KEB Hana Bank, Chung Won Joon 정원준 198-910214-61207). The deposit is non-refundable.

We also offer a 201 course for students who have completed 101, or can demonstrate sufficient prior experience in improv. Please contact us for more details.

About the Instructors:

Kevin Kowalk is a mainstage performer for Seoul City Improv and has experience leading performers from all over the world. He’s performed dozens of times in improv shows around Asia, including Seoul, Seongnam and Hong Kong, and acted in the Seoul Players Ten Minute Play Festival.

Joel Horne trained at the Unexpected Productions School in Seattle and has over 11 years of experience performing improv in Japan, Germany, Seattle, and Korea. He’s a skilled performer on the SCI stage and has been an improv session leader for over four years.

James Chung is the Director of Seoul City Improv. He has over 13 years of experience in improv comedy, having trained with the Upright Citizens Brigade in LA, workshopped under Emmy award winner Eddie Mujica and has held an Oscar Award (though he has yet to win one).

About SCI: Seoul City Improv was founded in 2007 and is Seoul’s first English-language improv comedy troupe. SCI began as a short-form improv group but has since branched out into other forms of improv, such as long-form and musical comedy improv. The group holds regular shows at the Korea Improv Theater and also hosts open practices to improvisers of all levels every Sunday from 6-9PM and Wednesday from 8-10pm. No experience is necessary so don’t be scared; just show up and have fun.

Directions: At Samgakji station (Line 4 and Line 6), take exit 3 and go straight for three blocks and take a left. Continue straight for one block. The venue is in the basement to the right of .
